2012 Stroke Play Championship

The Breakers – Palm Beach, Florida
December 9-12, 2012

The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida provided an outstanding experience for Members in attendance at the 2012 ASGA Stroke Play Championship! Daily temperatures in the 80’s provided a pleasant change for those travelling from northern locations. The famous Breakers Hotel lived up to it’s reputation as one of the grandest properties to be found anywhere in the World and the immaculate conditions provided by the Rees Jones Course at Breakers West proved the perfect compliment.

As is always the case with ASGA events, the hospitality and camaraderie were featured throughout and we were thrilled to welcome five terrific new members to join us – John Beirne of Orange, CT; Erich Lichtenberger of St. Petersburg, FL; Brian and Kathy O’Neill of Houston, TX; Jeff and Paula Orlandini of Rolling Hills Estates, CA; Robert and Mayra Wiessner of Rolling Hills Estates, CA – to their first event with ASGA and hope that we see them at many more to come.

Some great play also highlighted the week, and congratulations in the Championship Division to Jim McGuigan who held off a strong charge from Bill Cline capture the title of 2012 ASGA Stroke Play Champion. Larry Den opened with the round of the tournament, an even par 72 and took home the top honor in the Age 65+ Championship category. Jeff Orlandini and Roger Terry shared the Low Gross title in the First Division while Allen Northcutt (who also tied at the top for Gross) claimed the solo Net Championship and David Harkins received the Super Senior Championship trophy. There was also a tie atop the Stableford Division with co-Champions Bill Lichtenberger and James Sullivan sharing top honors. Congratulations to Brian O’Neill for his showing as the Super Senior Stableford Champion.

The ladies were led once again by Arlene McKitrick who posted rounds of 77-79 to win the Ladies Gross Championship, her 180th amateur victory! Congratulations also to Ede Rice who took home the top Net prize in the Ladies Championship as well as Ellen Northcutt who edged Betty Edwards by a single point in the Ladies Stableford competition.

We had a tremendous turnout in Palm Beach and many thanks as always to those who participated and helped to make this a very memorable week for all in attendance.
