2014 Quittner-Nabeshima Goodwill Matches
Kapalua Resort – Maui, Hawaii
March 15-21, 2014
Thank you to the terrific ASGA Team (21 Members plus spouses) that travelled to Hawaii this month to support and participate, helping to make Kapalua another very successful and enjoyable Quittner-Nabeshima Goodwill Match! We had excellent team representation in the congenial competition on the golf course and we all enjoyed the special camaraderie, good times and friendship off the course.
It was a great source of pride and pleasure to have so many first time participants on our team who so enthusiastically endorsed and promoted the spirit of these Matches.
Kapalua was marked as a special occasion with President Ozeki of the JSGA participating in this event for the first time in anyone’s memory…but it was Mrs. Ozeki stole the show on the final day by shooting an outstand 78! The Japan Seniors team also included 9 other members of the JSGA Board.
The Matches were extremely close….so close in fact that heading into the final day of singles play, both teams were tied with 54 points each. Unfortunately for us, JSGA saved some of their best play for the last day on the famous Plantation Course and edged out the team from ASGA to reclaim the trophy we had won at Pinehurst in 2014.
As communicated previously, the JSGA’s very generous offer and accommodation to host future events on the West Coast adds a variety of possible new venues that will maintain the interest and appeal and support for this event. As well, the JSGA’s dramatic offer to host its next event in Japan in 2018 promises to be a very special historic occasion — it will be the first time for the event to be held there in nearly 30 years. For Kapalua, plans were made in advance to have a meeting of representatives to discuss ways for us to work together to strengthen our partnership and the future of these Matches.
We most sincerely thank them for doing so and we appreciate and celebrate this new milestone we have mutually achieved in strengthening our cooperative partnership for maintaining the Quittner-Nabeshima Goodwill Matches.
We’d love to see everyone from this team as well as other Members of ASGA participating in 2016 — and, by the way, let’s bring that unique and very special trophy back, too!!:)
Some of the team members were kind enough to share photos with us and we have started a Flickr page so that all of our members can see the great time they missed!! There are already about 30 photos posted and we will continue to add new ones as they come in so please feel free to preview by clicking on the link below.
On behalf of Co-Captain Nick Nishiwaki and myself, best wishes and thank you all again — ladies included, for sure!
