2014 Stroke Play Championship

Bonita Bay Club – Bonita Springs, FL
December 7-10, 2014

A tremendous field of 80 ASGA Members plus spouses were welcomed to the exclusive Bonita Bay Club for the 2014 Stroke Play Championship December 7-10,2014. The Bonita Bay Club graciously extended their hospitality for ASGA Members not only to play their outstanding private golf courses, but all ASGA Members were issued temporary Memberships and were able to take advantage of Club dining venues during our event week. We were also thrilled to have long-time ASGA Member Arthur Hills, architect of three courses at Bonita Bay, with us in attendance to be honored Sunday evening with the ASGA National Award for service to amateur golf.  The Club welcomed golfers and non-golfers alike each morning with breakfast and lunch following golf daily. Private guided tours were arranged for non-golfing ladies to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates on Monday and the Artis-Naples Baker Museum on Tuesday.

As is always the case with ASGA events, the hospitality and camaraderie were featured throughout and among the large group we welcomed 16 terrific new members to join us (Phill & Sandy Ashkettle, Thomas Benz, Bob & Katie Biggs, Dick & Sandy Etches, Arthur Helgerson, Tom & Jane Hogenkamp, Bob & Valerie Milne, Len & Terry Nuzzo, Brad & Martha Peete, Tim & Nanette Powers, Michael Rappaport, Jim Romano, Larry & Connie Schuster, Stephen Shaw, Tom Slaight, Bob & Anne Van Gieson) to their first event with ASGA and hope that we see them at many more to come.

Some great play also highlighted the week and congratulations in the Championship Division to new Member Jim Romano. 2013 Champion David Willis also played well, tying with Bob Derks to take home the top honors in the Age 65+ Championship category. Bob Biggs took home the Overall Low Gross title in the First Division while ASGA President Bruce Milligan claimed the Net Championship and Don Meyer won the trophy as the low Super Senior. Congratulations go to Bob Feerick who played well all three days in capturing the Stableford Division and Bill Crandall who was the top Stableford Super Senior.

The ladies were led by Arlene McKitrick (Gross) and Ede Rice (Net) who took the top Prizes in the Ladies Championship Division and Rekha Lawande who captured the Ladies Stableford Trophy.

Finally, a very special thanks to all of the ASGA Members from Bonita Bay, but especially Bruce and Carol Milligan who worked tirelessly for well over a year coordinating every detail of the event on behalf of both ASGA and Bonita Bay and making sure that all Members in attendance had an outstanding experience in every aspect!!
