2020 Better Ball of Pairs Championship | February 13-16, 2020 | Casa de Campo Resort – La Romana, Dominican Republic
From our first cocktail reception at The Beach Club to our farewell breakfast at Lago Restaurant, our members experienced incredible ocean views and service that left us feeling like we had arrived in heaven.
Many members arrived early on Thursday for a practice round on the World Famous Teeth of the Dog course which was a true treat and a perfect way to kick off championship week.
That evening, all members came together at The Beach Club where we enjoyed cocktails and then a spectacular dinner all while enjoying sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea. The Beach Club is known to offer one of the best sunsets on the island, and it did not disappoint.
One of the many special conveniences of Casa de Campo is the selection of exceptional restaurants on site. Lago Restaurant proved to be the perfect spot for breakfast each morning. We enjoyed fresh pastries, omelets and local garnishes all the while enjoying spectacular views of the Teeth of the Dog and the Caribbean Sea.
During our stay, Members also visited the La Cana Restaurant, whose name comes from the sugar cane crops that surround the town of La Romana. There we were served French-inspired fare made from only local ingredients.
La Piazzetta Restaurant is always a favorite was where we were able to sip cocktails and dine while overlooking Altos de Chavón. The experience was reminiscent of a Mediterranean medieval village, as we were served a selection of Italian classics as well as Italian-inspired signature dishes, including an extensive variety of fresh handmade pastas prepared in-house.
Those who enjoy Spanish fare were treated to a special experience at La Casita Restaurant at the world-class Marina, which boasts overwhelming views of the ocean and a menu replete with fresh, local seafood
Better Ball of Pairs Championship
Over the course of three days, members competed in the Better Ball of Pairs Championship. This year’s event featured a men’s gross and men’s net division over three rounds, while the ladies’ division crowned an individual stableford gross and net champion.
The first and third rounds for the men and the first round for the ladies was contested on Teeth of the Dog, Pete Dye’s signature golf course that is ranked the #1 golf course in the Caribbean and #27 in the world. The course allowed members to play against the majestic backdrop of hand-carved rugged rock and the beautiful coral of the Dominican coastline.
The second round for the men and the second round for the ladies saw our members compete on Pete Dye’s masterpiece, Dye Fore golf course. Characterized by spectacular views of the Dominican mountains, the Chavón River, the Marina, and Altos de Chavón, this challenging cliff-side course was a delight for all of our players.
