ASGA/JSGA Quittner-Nabeshima Goodwill Matches

The Matches were the brainchild of Prince Nabeshima of Japan. As an avid golfer, the story goes in 1961 he approached Eggs Quittner, ASGA’s International Captain, with the proposal to have teams from both countries compete in golf matches to promote goodwill and friendship —-and to do so on a continuing basis.

With the endorsement President Eisenhower, the first Match was held at Hakone in 1962 and the second at Pinehurst 1964.

The 50th Anniversary Match in 2012 was again held in Pinehurst. That event coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Japan Seniors.  The 2018 Matches were hosted by Japan in the incredible city of Kyoto and the great tradition continues this coming June in Vernon, BC Canada.
